Jim's work appears in many media publications throughout New Zealand. He has been a multiple cartoonist of the year finalist and won the title at the Canon Media Awards in 2011.His work was also featured on the $1 stamp in 1997. Several books have also carried Hubbard's illustrations.

He is thought to have been the first fulltime editorial illustrator employed by a newspaper when he was first introduced by The Daily Telegraph in Napier.

His work is well known for it's simple, boldly executed clarity and incisiveness.
